While during the election campaign, Obama championed his government run health insurance system and attacked McCain’s idea about taxing health care benefits, Obama may have changed his tune. Facing the reality of how costly his proposed reforms will be, the new president has said he is now open to the possibility of taxing employer provided health insurance benefits in order to pay for his new plans. While the idea makes him somewhat hypocritical from a political standpoint, it makes sense from a financial one. Obama was even said to have regretted his stance during the campaign, because it would remove a potentially valuable method of funding his reform movement. Will Obama lose credibility and receive a negative public outcry for changing his attitude toward taxing health insurance benefits?
