In the recently passed stimulus package, Obama and fellow democrats buckled somewhat when Republican opponents cried socialism, therefore dropping the provision that Medicaid would be extended to people who are unemployed in this drastic recession. Some say, since it would be temporary, that it would equate to “practicing” for a type of universal health care system in the country. However, too many remain fearful of the idea of universal healthcare, too closely does it resemble the communist sentiments our country has long fought against. Also, many feel that the government cannot be trusted with something so important, as it tends to muck things up when it becomes too involved. Which side of the debate are you on? Should health insurance be linked to your ability to keep a good job, or should health care be a right provided to everyone via the government?
