Unfortunately the meager amount of unemployment benefits do little to cover the astronomical costs of COBRA, insurance available to those who have lost their jobs. COBRA can eat up 30% or more of a person’s unemployment benefits, and is even worse for families. Experts feel that if insurance benefits were not directly linked to an employer, than the country wouldn’t be facing the problem of so many uninsured citizens.
