Experts more and more are looking at our employer based health insurance system and saying that based on the rapid increases we have seen in premium over the last couple of years, the system is unsustainable. Given that premiums went up 30% last year, on the current course, health care spending will rapidly overtake every other sector of the budget. Rising costs threaten not only the millions of people who are left without health insurance, but it also endangers small businesses and makes it difficult for them to attract and retain quality employees. Trying to pay for a group health insurance plan can be enough to put some small companies out of business, so they often have no choice but to not offer coverage to their employees. How long can the system continue on the way it is before it completely falls apart?
