Many feel that health insurance reform is an integral part of improving the economy, but also feel that the current system does not need to be completely abandoned, simply altered and strengthened. Supporters of the employer based delivery of health insurance benefits feels that instead of shifting away from the system which has been in place for roughly 70 years, we simply need to change the way it functions. Proponents suggest that automatically enrolling employees and making health insurance mandatory, in the same way automobile and home insurance is, would drastically reduce the number of uninsured Americans. But this begs the question of choice. Since employees have no choice in what plans their employer will offer, should they be forced to take it? Will there be some uniformity in the type of plans employers offer so that a person working for one company is not paying drastically more for the same type of benefits as an employee working for a different company with a different plan? How could a mandatory type system be fair and effective and embraced by everyone?
