The decision of whether or not to retire, and when to retire, can be a difficult one, especially given the nature of our health care system today. A report released by Fidelity recently indicates that even with Medicare coverage, a retired couple can expect to need an additional $240,000 over the course of their retirement to pay for medical expenses. The life expectancy of a man is roughly 17 years after retirement, for a women it is 20 years. This can spell a lot of money needed for basic care, as well as emergency care, which is often needed in those years. Many people worry that Medicare will not be around for much longer, which leaves seniors even more at a loss for how to pay for health insurance. What needs to be done so that seniors can afford health care without having to work until they are in their eighties?
