Shopping for a new job based on benefits may change a bit as Barack Obama takes over the presidency. His proposed initiative of “Pay or Play” would require employers to either offer health benefits to their employees, or contribute funds to a government sponsored health care plan. He also plans to change the portability of coverage, meaning that employees will keep their plan as they move from job to job, providing a better sense of stability. He will focus on prevention and better management of chronic diseases, keeping premium costs down for everyone. How long will it take before we see a dramatic change in the way employee benefits are administered? Will he be able to accomplish these changes within the span of one term? Will they be enduring changes?
