It’s Open Enrollment season for workers lucky enough to have employer based coverage. Considering that two-fifths of American employers do not offer coverage, this group is getting smaller. This problem is compounded by higher costs and fewer coverages, which has led many employees to opt out of coverage, even if its offered. As health insurance companies continue to raise their rates, employers are forced to place more of the burden of paying premiums on the employees, and for many, it is simply out of the budget. Many feel that we are facing the end of the employer based health care system. Can the system be saved? Is it worth saving, or is it time for a change?
