In Boston, thousands of personal care attendants will finally be getting health insurance benefits and paid time off thanks to the efforts of their union. The head of the Service Employees International Union District 1199’s Boston office says that roughly 25,000 workers will be affected by this new contract in Boston and surrounding areas. The personal care attendants joined the union last year, and as a result have earned almost $2 an hour more pay on average, as well as the paid time off and health care benefits. Many say it was a long time coming, and hopes are high that these improvements will help decrease the amount of rapid turnover in the field. This will hopefully provide more stability for seniors who depend on their assistance. how do you think the new contract will impact this field?
