While Americans are on board with the idea of seperating employment status from health insurance coverage, the manner in which this should be achieved needs to be closely examined. Depsite the fact that the Democrats are expecting a victory for Obama’s Medicare-for-all proposal, some experts fear that this will hurt America even more in the long run. During the recession, as more people are losing their jobs, and as a result, their health insurance, the idea of universal health care becomes more appealing. Experts warn, however, that letting the government take over could result in costs that will burden generations to come. Any illusions about the government being able to manage costs is dispelled by a close look at the current Medicare system which is complex, disorganized, and often subject to fraud. If the government cannot run a system targeted only at a particular age group, how can we expect it to run a program encompassing the entire nation?
