Congressional Democrats are contesting President Obamas administration’s arrangement with the pharmaceutical industry to regulate how much it would cut prices to contribute to a health care overhaul. The White House, faced with raging tempers at town hall meetings across the country, is taking sides in a rising argument between lawmakers in Washington, supporting the Senate and the drug industry against Democrats. At Wednesdays White House meeting, press secretary Robert Gibbs shielded the covenant between the Senate panel and PhRMA. Under the agreement, drug companies will supply discounts to senior citizens who exhaust their first round of health insurance benefits under Medicare’s prescription drug program.
