During these difficult times when more and more people are joining the ranks of the uninsured, Obama is working on several fronts to combat the damage being inflicted by the troubled economy. Not only is he working towards the ultimate goal of health care reform, which is intrinsically linked to the state of the economy, but he is also working on solutions for the immediate future. In an effort to ease the blow on America’s citizens, Obama is working to pass a stimulus package which would be aimed at several programs which assist those in need. The stimulus would offer support to Medicaid, which offers health care to those who cannot afford it on their own, and who do not have employment. The stimulus would also temporarily lower the cost of COBRA, which is insurance available to those who have been laid off for up to 18 months after termination. The coverage is normally very expensive, often prohibitively so, and a decrease in the cost would make it more accessible to a greater number of people. Will these measures be able to combat the rising number of uninsured citizens across the country?
