While many have recently criticized the employer-based system of health insurance, there are many who remain in support of it. Among their arguments of merit are the facts that the system has worked successfully for many years and currently covers about 70 million Americans. Supporters also point to the fact that employer sponsored wellness programs have improved the health of millions and led to better management and prevention of chronic diseases. They also fear what will happen to a number of people with prexisting conditions if they are suddenly left fending for themselves in the individual health insurance marketplace. What are some other merits of the employer-based health care system? How do we know this health insurance system work? Would working toward a wellness employer based health plan be a better decision?
