Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Senator Edward Kennedy, and Senator John McCain were all on hand for Sebelius’ nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services in the Senate yesterday. Issues being discussed included whether or not to support a government run health insurance program alongside the current privately operated health insurance system. Sebelius asserted that if this accomplished the goal of insuring all 15 million Americans, then yes, she was in favor. One thing not up for debate was the base necessity for reform. Americans spend half again as much money on health care as any other nation, and we spend more on health care than we do on food and shelter. Costs have simply gotten way out of hand, and something needs to change. What direction do you think reform will ultimately take?
