In 2008, six in ten Americans were protected by a group health insurance plan they received from their employer. The problem with this is that such employer sponsored plans have been going up in price at an alarming rate. The premiums for these plans are outpacing employees’ salaries roughly four times as fast, leaving many families unable to afford them. Employee contributions, outof pocket expenses, and deductibles are all going up at the same time. If this trend continues unchanged, the cost of health insurance will eventually be greater than the average family income. What needs to prevent this situation from occuring?
